Location
Staff were not friendly and the girl who checked us in was so slow and had no personality.

Very nice atmosphere, not bad standards cleaning wise and the free wifi was a boon. I was there on a Thursday night and was in a room of 16 beds with only one other girl, which meant I got to pick my bed and find the best pillow. It is brilliantly central. easy to get to all the shops and amenities, and there is a McDonalds opposite if you're in need of a quick bite, or there are plenty of other restaurants for all budgets round about.
It was very noisy at night with drunken revellers randomly shouting, and loud booming music coming from somewhere. If you are a light sleeper, I'd avoid it. I'm not sure what it would be like at the weekend, probably more so.

Very clean and new. Warm welcome, rooms very well spaced out and super comfortable
On the first floor there were only two showers which seemed not enough as all our group had to wait in queue for a shower. Also the bar prices were expensive for a hostel. The price for drinks was equal to or more than that of pubs within 2 min walk.

Affordable and Friendly. This place was ideal for the traveller to stay needing a nights rest before travelling on the following day.
There were shower facilities but no shampoo or cleaning products in the bathrooms. Also as they wer mixed dorms, you are at the elements of the Adenoid-deficient kind who stay there.

-Very friendly staff -Good showers -Fair breakfast (toast, cereal) My favorite thing about Bunkhouse was how sociable it was-- it was very easy to meet people in the lounge downstairs. Also, the rooms were kept pretty clean considering I was in a room with 17 other women.
Wish there was an elevator.

The location is brilliant.
The noise at the night. People who cleans the St. Mary St. make a lot of noise. I don't know how Bunkhouse can solve this problem. Anyway, this is the main reason that I may not stay in Bunkhouse for a second time.

I really liked the design in the hostel. It was unique and comfortable. The staff was really nice and we were even able to get a beer at the bar ten minutes before closing. Nice and helpful.
the shower was a little dirty and there are no self cooking facilities except a microwave but it was promised on the website

Jess, the co owner, made my stay. Over cereal, toast and coffee I enjoyed a good chat every morning. A lovely down to earth girl whose choice of design and decor takes the bunkhouse from hostel to funky, quirky, clever cool 'bar, bed, boogie'. One of these tv designers could not have done better. Perfect eye for its clientele. With its Halfpenny cinema and dj on Friday/Saturday night it's right for all occasions. Cardiff is party town at the weekend and not for the feint hearted and for those wishing to sleep, go to a hotel, but if the budget won't allow earplugs and an open mind (if you're over a certain age) will see you through. Oh and a welcome coffee in the morning. Bute park is on the doorstep and perfect for a 2mile plus jog to blow out the cobwebs.
Miserable German girls in room, you're in a hostel staying with other people, stick a smile on yer face!

I loved the Location! Perfect if you want to go out and drink in the town. Cute bar downstairs. Staff were friendly and even helped my friend break into her bag when she accidentally locked her keys in it. Let us leave our bags downstairs whilst we explored after we had checked out.
Only seemed to have 2 showers, 1 being in the disabled toilet. Obviously big rush to use it in the morning before the 10am checkout. My friends bed had rocks in it and she couldn't sleep as there was no ventilation in the room and the boys staying in the dorm were pulling out some smelly farts during the night. I'm a heavy sleeper and didn't notice but she hadn't got a good night sleep due to the noise/smells/stuffyness.
